Anchorage Fire Fighter Andy Mullen--LODD Andrew Lawrence Mullen March 21, 1965 - October 11, 2010 After nearly 14 years on the job, Andy Mullen worked his last shift at the Anchorage Fire Department on April 8th of this year at Rescue 4. Andy was diagnosed with cancer that was determined to have been directly linked to exposure on the job while carrying out his duties as a Firefighter. Andy passed away last night in the loving company of his family and AFD Brothers and Sisters. Brother Mullen hired onto the job on February 24th, 1997, just a month shy of his 32nd birthday. There was no one more proud to be a fireman than Andy. He always had a smile on his face and a positive attitude and outlook on life and his profession. He never passed up an opportunity to get involved in fire department functions and events; he was always there. In 2002 Andy promoted to the rank of Apparatus Engineer where he worked on the Dive Rescue team out of Fire Station 4 on Tudor Road. Andy was a proud member of the Anchorage Firefighters Union, IAFF Local 1264. He was a member of the Local 1264 Executive Board. Andy has long been the man behind all of the charitable and benevolent fundraisers for the Local 1264. Even before he served on the Executive Board, Andy was always involved in raising money for various groups around the city. He leaves a wife (Lynee) and three daughters (Riley-19, Erin-10, and Darby-10) who reside in Eagle River. Andy?s hallmark activity was time spent with his children. His parents reside on Long Island in New York in the same house that Andy was raised in with his brother and sister. The service is scheduled for Friday in Anchorage. The procession starts 12 noon at AFD station #1 (located at 100 E 4th Avenue) ending up at the Denaina Center (Located at 7th & ?F? Street). The Denaina Center will be where the service will be held to start at 1 pm. A reception is to follow and will be announced at the service. Class A?s are appropriate attire.
