GP Harold Shaitberger with AKPFFA Eboard at Convention

President Tom Wescott gaveled in the 2012 AKPFFA State Convention in Anchorage.  Special guests included the International Association of Fire Fighters General President Harold Schaitberger, Professor John Kretzschmar from the University of Nebraska, and IAFF 7th District Vice President Ricky Walsh.

The floor consisted of members from North Pole, Fairbanks, Ketchikan, Juneau, and Anchorage.  Through good debate and discussion amongst members, resolutions were passed and insight in to what issues face Alaska's Fire Fighters in the upcoming year were on the table.  President Wescott spoke on the importance of pursuing an adequate retirement for our members and how critical the role of our locals have been in fighting this issue.  Along with President Wescott's address the delegation heard reports from each of the District VP and a Secretary Treasurers report from Brian Partch.  Speeches from IAFF GP Shaitberger, Professor Kretzschmar, and IAFF 7th DVP Walsh occupied members as they heard about current IAFF issues, what other 7th District states were facing, and a brief re-education on where labor started and where it is today.
